Last year we heard from members who said the meeting started too early for them to attend. So we will have coffee and dessert starting at 6:30 pm, and start the meeting at 7:00.

Our brief business meeting and election will be
followed by discussions with our L.A.P.D. Senior Lead
Officer, Juan Ceja, and our two City Council Members
Paul Koretz, and Bill Rosendahl and/or their staff. If

Armed Robbery Verizon Store 02/21/12

TYPE: -Armed Robbery
WHERE:- 3100 Overland Ave.
WHEN: - Feb. 21, 2012
SUSPECTS: -male black, light skin, 20-30 years old
CHARACTERISTICS: -Two male black, wearing security jackets, one wearing a fake beard,Abraham Lincoln type, entered the Verizon store, on Overland and Queensland, upon closing time around 9:00 pm, brandished a hand gun and demanded money.
They were seen leaving the area, in a white Silverado truck.
Thankfully no one was hurt!

Westside Village Residents to Rally Against Proposed 7-Eleven on Tuesday Evening

There has been mounting concerns from Residents that a (24-hour) 7-Eleven looking sell alcohol in the former Farm Boy space on Overland and Queensland will alter the character of Westside Village. Concerns being expressed include adding more in-and-out traffic to what is already a dangerous intersection; the sale of individual cans and bottles of beer will bring an unwelcome element to our neighborhood increasing litter from those who will park on our dark streets to drink; increased crime in the community that this type of 24-hour convenience store attracts; other established businesses in our community will be hurt by lost revenue.

The email support has been terrific, however the only way to persuade the City Council to reconsider letting another 7-Eleven move in to our area is to have a strong showing at the community meeting on Tuesday night.
If you are not able to attend, please email us your comments and concerns. Every email will be printed and taken to the meeting.

Solicitors in the area , red Expedition, AZ plate

A note from Officer Ceja
On Fri evening Feb. 10th, few calls were reported to LAPD dispatch of seeing a red Ford Expedition with Arizona Lic plate driving around West Side Village. Also was reported the passengers a white male with tattoo of star on his neck and white female knocking on residents doors and soliciting to sell books.
Fortunately officer Ceaj was in the area and was able to catch up with them while still cruising the area. He stopped them for questioning and it appeared they were not properly licensed to solicit or sell books in state of California, therefore were only warned and released, but were told to leave and not come back to Westside Village.
Officer Ceja, still encourages and thanks the residents to continue calling LAPD dispatch or 911 to report any suspicious activities.

Auto Burglary

TYPE: Auto Burglary
WHERE: 3200 block of Selby
WHEN: Between 12:30am and 7:00am Thursday, February 2nd
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: A resident reported both of their cars were broken in to overnight. A Garmin and change was taken.

A note from SLO Ceja:
Just a friendly reminder, I have been working from 8 p.m to 6 A.M and I have come across vehicles in the westside village with valuables left in the cars in plain view. Please lets try to remove all items from plain view to discourage this thieves from coming into our neighborhoods.

Also if you own a 2005 or older Honda or Toyota , please do whatever possible to secured your car. If you have a steering wheel club lock, please use it. If you have the means to invest money in buying one please do.

In the surrounding neighborhoods, the choice of cars for these car thieves have been Toyotas and Hondas.

If you guys know anyone who has connections with someone who works in the locking/ or Club for steering wheels, please let me know.
