The Census 2010 has begun!

Census Bureau employees are canvassing our neighborhood to update the address database.

One way to recognize them is by their black US Census Bureau Bag and ID. They may stop and ask apartment residents and/or homeowners to confirm their address and/or to advise them of any changes to the living quarters on the property – for example; a guesthouse was added since the last Census (10 years ago). Please be forthcoming with responses. Census employees are legally bound NOT to tell anyone but the Census Bureau of these changes. Census employees are bound by law to maintain confidentiality.

Please help the community by getting an accurate count. When the Census Bureau employee knocks on your door over the next few weeks they will be updating the address database only. Later this year, the new and improved 10 question 2010 Census form will be mailed out to you. Please fill it out and return it, because YOU COUNT!

Calico Cat Found

UPDATE: THE OWNER HAS BEEN LOCATED!

A Calico cat, female I believe, has taken up residence in our backyard for the past 5 days. This is probably the 4th occasion that this cat has done this over the past year I'd say. But this is the longest that she has been around which causes me concern that it may be lost or homeless now. On one occasion it had a pink collar and a name of Cleo on it. Didn't take down the phone number as we thought she was just passing through again. It no longer bears the collar but does bear a distinctive scar across it's nose now from some encounter. I live on Midvale Ave. between National and Queensland. I can be contacted by email atladave@ucla.edu or by phone at 310-936-7261.

Good News to Share

An update to a burglary on Midvale this past September:
One of the burglars dropped a store receipt in the home which had some of his information on it.  The resident found this seemingly odd item the following day and gave it to LAPD detectives.  Coincidentally, a neighbor had noticed two men parked on the block that afternoon who looked suspicious to him.  Without putting himself in jeopardy, he took a picture of the car as they were driving away which captured the make, model and license plate number.  This photo was sent to the WVNW and in turn was sent to SLO Ceja.  After some investigation by the detectives, they found the car and license was registered to the same individual whose information appeared on the receipt found in the home, which put him at the scene of the crime.  The individual was picked up and given the evidence against him, he confessed.  He is now spending the next four years in state prison.  Thank you so much to the victim of this crime for following through with the LAPD and a very big thank you goes out to the neighbor whose keen awareness of his neighborhood and his willingness to safely photograph the individuals helped lead to a conviction.
