Follow-Up to Arson Incident

At 4:00 AM on Thursday, 11/20/2008 a resident's car was lit on fire by an arsonist on the 3400 Block of Greenfield Ave. Just before this happened a vehicle with a loud-sounding exhaust (it sounded like a truck) left the scene. 

On Wednesday 11/26/2008 the "Animal Liberation Press Office" announced in their "press release" that the terrorist car-bombing was an act accomplished by an anonymous "animal liberation" group that calls itself "Students and Workers for the Liberation of UCLA Primates": http://www.animalliberationpressoffice.org/press_releases/pr_08_11_27_ucla.htm.
According to this announcement, the "target" was in fact a different neighbor on the 3400 block of Greenfield Avenue who works as a researcher at UCLA.  However, the "animal activists" attacked a completely unrelated and innocent person. One of their activists was recently brought to court thanks to the vigilance and help of the neighbors of another of the terrorists' "targets". (see: Judge holds extremist in contempt for harassing UCLA faculty

This car bombing is now being treated as an act of "domestic terrorism" and involves LAPD, LAFD, UCLA PD and FBI investigators. The goal of "animal liberators" is to intimidate, scare and harm anyone whom they determine to be the "target" using "legal and illegal means" which are typical tactics of terrorists worldwide . One of the group's "ideologues", proposes killing 5-15 researchers in order to accomplish their goals (see: http://articles.latimes.com/2006/sep/05/local/me-alf5).

In order to help the investigation and protect our neighborhood, please report any suspicious activity, group protest or persons who might come to your house with anti-animal research leaflets to:

Male Yorkie with blue collar found

UPDATE:
The dog was reunited with it's owner today. Thank you for your help!

An older, male Yorkie with a blue collar was found around 11 PM Thursday night (11/20), near the intersection of Military and Queensland.

Apparent Arson - Car Set on Fire

WHERE: 3400 Greenfield
WHEN: Thursday, November 20th at 4:00am
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: - At 4:00 AM this morning Thursday, 11/20/2008 there was a car lit on fire (by what appears to be an arsonist) in the driveway of a resident on the 3400 Block of Greenfield Ave. Just before this happened a loud exhaust on ( what sounded like a truck) left the scene.

The LAFD came out and then called the Arson Unit because it looked suspicious, they found a red gas container on the ground under the car. A big boom was heard, and then a neighbor saw the flames. Without the quick action of a neighbor, this could have been much worse, not only the other cars near by but also houses could have caught on fire, since they are very close and a tree overhangs the driveway

Michael Camello is the arson investigator and his office phone is 213-485-6095. He said that someone poured gas on the car.

CHARACTERISTICS: Police activity and air support Tuesday afternoon between 2:30-3:00 PM on 3200 Greenfield... Suspect forced entry thru front door, attempt to take plasma TV but failed and damaged it in the process, either it fell when he tried to unhook it or he dropped it...He may have been interupted and fled as the resident came home..No suspect was seen

Possible Attempted Burglary

TYPE: Possible Attempted Burglary
WHERE: 3400 Tilden Ave
WHEN: 12:30 pm Tuesday, November 4th
SUSPECTS: Three African American Teenagers
CHARACTERISTICS: A resident at a home on 3400 Tilden Avenue heard some noises in the backyard and going to investigate when a neighbor came to the front door and reported that he saw three african american teenagers exit through the garden gate. This occurred about 12:30pm on Tuesday. The resident suspects one of the noises was someone trying to open the back door which was locked. The garden gate was unlocked due to some roof maintenance being done that morning. No entry to the house was gained and nothing appeared to be missing.

Attempted theft of Catalytic Converter from under car

TYPE: Attempted theft of Catalytic Converter from under car
WHERE: 3500 Block of Tilden
WHEN: Sunday morning 12:50 am
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: There was an attempted theft that occurred on Saturday night/Sunday morning, November 2nd, at approximately 12:50 AM on the 3500 Block of Tilden. A resident heard a loud noise outside of their house then heard what sounded like grinding metal on metal. The resident went to the front door and didn’t see anything but the sound stopped suddenly. Then, the resident said in a loud voice, “Hello”. Just then, a dark figure came out from the street side next to the resident's SUV parked out front of their house and started walking north on Tilden. The resident yelled, “Hey” and the person starting running, then they got into a car and drove off quickly, screeching tires as they left. It was discovered that the person had tried to steal the catalytic converter from underneath the car. They had used a chain cutter and had nearly cut all the way through one of the metal pipes to which the converter is attached. When the resident took it to get repaired, the repair place advised that what they were really after was platinum and rodium, which the catalytic converter is made of, since these metals can apparently be sold for several thousands of dollars when enough is accumulated.

Business Robbery

TYPE: Business Robbery
WHERE: Subway Restaurant in shopping center (Sepulveda at National)
WHEN: Wednesday, October 29th, 7:00 pm
SUSPECTS: Male, Black, 6' tall around 40 years old
CHARACTERISTICS: Subway was robbed Wednesday night at 7:00 pm,  by a male, blk, 6' around 40 years.  Wearing grey baseball cap and dark jacket. 

He got in the line and ask the cashier for change for $1.00 and then demanded money.

Suspect is wanted for similar robberies in couple of business in Westchester and earlier Wednesday night Rite Aide on Lincoln and Rose.  He was seen with a Blue Van, Dodge or Ford that has "something Landmark"  written on the van.

WHERE: 3100 Block of Greenfield
WHEN: Saturday, October 11th at 7:30 pm
SUSPECTS: Hispanic Male - 6' tall, 140 lbs, 18-22 years old, heavy acne on face, thin built, blk t-shirt, blk shorts, blu shoes
CHARACTERISTICS: Suspect entered home through 2nd floor open window. Victim & witness entered through front door and discovered suspect hiding in 1st floor office closet. Suspect fled through rear door. Unknown if property was taken.

Shooting on Tilden - 10/20

WHERE: 3300 block of Tilden
WHEN: Monday, 8:07 pm
SUSPECTS: Male (Arrested)
CHARACTERISTICS: A domestic disturbance apparently involving an ex-boyfriend happened on the 3300 block of Tilden Monday evening which resulted in several shots being fired.
No one was hurt and LAPD has arrested the suspect. The suspect is not a resident of Westside Village.

The LAPD would like to thank all of the residents that called to report what they heard and saw as this was very helpful to them.

Grand Theft Auto - 10/12

WHEN: Sunday 10/12 early morning
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: A resident's vehicle was stolen from the 3100 block of Midvale on Sunday, 10/12 and recovered on Monday, 10/20 in Long Beach missing various parts.

Auto Burglary - 10/19

WHERE: 3200 Selby
WHEN: Between Late Saturday night or Early Sunday morning, 10/19/08.
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: Someone ransacked the glove compartment of a resident's car parked in their driveway...nothing appeared to be missing. Around 12:30 am or 1:00 am a resident saw a man around a car parked in the street. When the man saw the resident, he turned and began walking quickly down the hill.

Auto Burglary - 10/19

WHEN: Sunday, 10/19/08, early morning. Sometime b/t 2am and 7am.
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: The owner of the vehicle came out Sunday morning to find papers around the car and discovered someone had rummaged through the middle console. Nothing of value was in the vehicle and all that appeared to be missing was some change. The car may have been unlocked.

Missing Cat - 9/27 (FOUND)

Cleo has been returned to his owner!

Very friendly cat missing from the 3000 block of Kelton.  

She is a 12 year old, beautiful calico cat with a medium frame. Unfortunately her collar had just fallen off and I hadn't replaced it.
Her name is Cleo and the last time I saw her was Saturday night 9/27.

Home Burglary - 9/22

TYPE:  Home Burglary
WHERE:  11000 block of Queensland
WHEN:  Monday, September 22nd, 2008 between 2-7pm
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS:  Suspects entered through rear sliding window.  The window was open slightly with a wooden dowel laying in the track to secure it from being opened further.  Suspects lifted window off its track and removed it to gain entry.  The home was ransacked and a key to the home safe was found.  Jewerly and cash were taken.

Auto Burglaries - 9/08

WHERE: 3200 Tilden
WHEN: Monday, September 8th, 2008
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: -

We had two auto break-ins on the 3200 block of Tilden last week. A Toyota Tacoma pickup parked on the street, was broken into during the early morning hours of Sept 8. Tools and other personal items were taken. The right side door was found to be unlocked, but no break-in damage was observed.

The owner took his pickup to the Pacific Division station where he was told that the break-in was likely accomplished using a magnetic device that is passed down the side of the vehicle - unlocking the door and disabling the alarm.

A BMW sedan was also broken into on Tilden last week apparently using the same technique. Contents of the glove box were disturbed, but nothing of value was in the car. This vehicle was parked on the street as well.

Do not leave any items in your car, whether on the street or in your driveway.

Found dog 09/11/08( returned to his home)

Returned to his rightful owner same night !!! :)
A Cocker Spanial dog without a collar was found at the ealry hours this morning on the street around Queensland and Bentley. According to the resident who found him, he is a mellow dog and blind in one eye.

Police activity and helicoptors on Sunday 9/07

There was a radio call on Sunday afternoon reporting an unknown male breaking in to cars at National & Sepulveda. LAPD unit was dispatched to the location and found the suspect fleeing the area towards the Westside Village residential streets. Parameters were set and air support was called in immediately. The search of the area was sucessful and the suspect was arrested. It appeared that the suspect was in possesions of stolen goods from Beverly Hills and a crow bar in his vehicle. Suspect was released to B.H. custody later on that evening.

HOME BREAK-IN - 9/02/08

TYPE:  Home Break-in

WHERE:  3000 Block of Midvale

WHEN:  Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 Daytime before 8:00pm

SUSPECTS:  -

CHARACTERISTICS:  Resident came home about 8:20 pm on Tuesday to find front door open. The home had been rummaged through, but nothing appears to be missing at this time.  The individual(s) broke the rear bathroom window to gain access and appear to have left through the front door.

CHARACTERISTICS: There was an attempted home burglary this afternoon on the 3500 block of Veteran.  The homeowner came home after work to find the gate from the driveway was ajar, and the screen was open in the back   (den door), and the lock  ( for the screen)  was broken, and on the other side, the screen from the kitchen window was on the ground, but no one got in to the house.

WESTSIDE VILLAGE CRIME ALERT- 8/27/08

WHEN: Wednesday, August 27th 2008 Afternoon
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: A home on the 3500 block of Tilden was burglarized on Wednesday of this week. The burglars broke in mid-day through a back window of the home that was locked, but they broke through a plastic lock. They took money and jewelry, as well as some bottles of alcohol, then walked out the front door.
