Suspicious incident on Kelton

A neighbor reported a suspicious incident that occurred Tuesday evening, around 8 PM on the 3200 block of Kelton.

The resident was sitting in their front yard behind a tall fence when a car pulled up and two men got out. The resident couldn't see them because of the fence, but heard enough to know they were just lingering in front of the house.

One of the owner's dogs growled and she heard one of the men say "There are two dogs." A pause then he said to the other "they smell your fear." They lingered some more, then one got into the car and pulled across the street to park between two houses. After a few minutes, the car backed up to be directly in front of one of the houses.  The car and men just stayed in front of the neighbors' house, one in the car, one outside it, for about ten minutes.

The resident's husband came out and she told him what was happening. He looked  over our fence and the two men saw him. The guy outside the car got in, and the two men drove away. 

To the resident it felt like they were checking out the area. 

Details: Young, African-American, one wearing a gray hoodie pulled over his head. Car was a newish silver Camry.

The neighbor called the LAPD non-emergency number but gave up after being on an endless hold.  The nature of these individuals' behavior is suspicious and consistent with activity prior to some of the recent break-ins in Westside Village.  If you happen to see activity similar to that described above please call 911 and convey there have been several break-ins in our area recently and these individuals have been seen watching houses in a suspicious manner and you'd like LAPD to come by to investigate.

We lost our dog. He is 10 months and is on antibiotics. His name is Corry. We
lost him on May 27th, around 12:30pm on Glendon St and Woodbine, in Palms, He is micro-chipped

Town Hall Meeting Monday Evening

Another shooting in Palms 3300 Mentone 04/22/15

Over the last week there have two shooting incidents in the Westside Neighborhood of Palms.
The Palms Neighborhood Council is hosting a Town Hall Meeting dedicated to these shootings THIS COMING MONDAY April 27th @ 7PM at the IMAN Center (3376 Motor Ave).
Public safety representatives will be in attendance to provide an update on the incidents and the measures they will be taking to prevent future violent crimes.

The murder suspect responsible for shooting two men in Woodbine Park resulting in one death, and leaving another critically wounded from a gunshot to the head nearby was arrested this morning in Hawthorne. All night an LAPD alert went out with the vehicle and registered owner information for officers to be on the look out. Undercover units staged at the registered owners residence and took him in to custody this morning. The shooting was gang related, with internal gang ties. The murder victim, 27 years old Justin Aguilar died at the scene witnesses and surveillance video identified the suspects car. One of the suspects described by witnesses at the scene was a black male in a blue plaid shirt. He was reported as fleeing from the scene on foot and was the victim of a gunshot wound to the head after Justin Aguilar was killed. It is believed he and the shooter are part of the same gang.

Two Burglaries on 3300 block of Kelton 04/10/15

TYPE: Two Home Burglaries
WHERE: 3300 block of Kelton
WHEN: Friday, April 10th 4:45pm
SUSPECTS: African American Male, black shirt and black pants and African American Female wearing pink top, black pants and sunglasses.
CHARACTERISTICS: On 3300 block of Kelton there may have been three people. One driver with perhaps a police scanner in a beige Chrysler, one (female) on foot outside on sidewalk wearing pink, and one who breaks in (male). They broke into one residence and ransacked it, and then went next door to another residence and broke in through the kitchen window. He opened some alarmed doors which sent the owner a text message of a break in and then he watched live on my camera. 

The break in happened approximately 4:43 (called police at around 4:45) and the thieves were out on the Kelton by 4:50 in broad daylight. A woman was outside the gate trying to pull it open and the guy was inside the gate trying to pull it open as well. They couldn't so he handed over some stolen items to the woman who then went into the passenger side and he climbed over the fence and perhaps threw the heavier item into the car (backseat?)  She was wearing bright pink. He was in all black (see photo).

Burglary on 10700 block of Queensland

WHERE: 10700 block of Queesland
WHEN: Saturday afternoon, 03/28/2015
SUSPECTS: -
CHARACTERISTICS: A neighbor reported a burglary on the 10700 block of Queensland on Saturday afternoon.  The burglar came in through bathroom window (owner says the window must have been unlocked) and ransacked the bedroom stealing cash, gift cards and purse.

Suspicious Individual on 3000 block of Veteran on Thursday

A neighbor on 3000 block of Veteran reported a suspicious individual on Thursday.  See the message below...

I've attached pics of an unknown male that approached my house
yesterday.  I understand that he doesn't fit the "criminal"
look, but no one knows who he is, and he had no business walking up
the drive, and I'm assuming, looking over my North-side fence into the
back yard.

His car first appears on Veteran heading South - he u-turns and parks
in front - that's his silver VW - possible Jetta.  A neighbor called
me at work as he left the property to alert me, but because this guy
walked with confidence up the drive, the neighbor thought I might in
fact know him and did not take down a plate.

No business card was left - he simply walked-up, was out of camera
view for 30 seconds - then hurriedly headed down the driveway - and
drove away very quickly.

Again, not a very threatening-looking individual, but he had no
business here - so passing along.

​We received a report of Catalytic Converter theft on a 4 Runner last night at 3:06 AM at 3200 Block of Malcolm.
Security camera detected the suspect car, a 4 Runner, pulled up next to the resident car, with the blinkers on, while the second suspect slipped underneath the car and cut the converter in less than few minutes.

Police Activity 3200 Military 02/19/15

LAPD K9 searched a perimeter at Military & Palms Thursday night after a burglary suspect unwittingly attempted to enter the home of an off-duty police officer (not LAPD). Shots were fired and the suspect fled. It was believed at the time that the suspect was armed but at the end of the incident no suspect weapon had been recovered. The victim fired on the suspect within the residence and a legal firearm was recovered and returned. The suspect is still outstanding. Neighbors did an exceptional job calling in suspicious activity during the search. This followed an active day in Palms after a robbery suspect unsuccessfully hit two banks in Palms and one in Culver City before being apprehended. LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Divisions is handling in conjunction with the FBI. Although he didn’t get any money, attempted robbery of a bank (let alone 3) is a Federal crime.

Break-ins to constructions sites

There has been an increase in break-ins to construction sites lately in 

Westside Village

1/27/15  3200 Malcolm- Blow torched the steel storage shed and stole the construction  tools

 

1/28/15 3400 Kekon _ Jimmied the back door open, broke in to backyard storage  shed and office. Stole contractors tools.

Our Senior Lead Officer, Juan Ceja has organized a meeting at St. John's for Thursday, January 29th @ 7:00 pm.  We will be discussing crime in the area, front desk issues at Pacific Division and information from the communications division.

Attempted Home Burglary 3200 block of Malcolm

TYPE: Home Burglary Attempt
WHERE: 3200 block of Malcolm
WHEN: 7:00pm Thursday, January 15th
SUSPECTS: Male, 18-25 years old wearing gray hoddie
CHARACTERISTICS: Tonight, shortly after 7:00 pm there was an attempted burglary on 3200 block of Malcolm.  A male suspect 18-25 years old wearing a grey hoodie was seen running from the house across a neighbor's lawn.  He was picked up at the intersection of Malcolm and Queensland by a darker model hatch back.

The suspect broke the rear door window to gain access to the residence however the home alarm scared him off as it seems nothing was taken.
